Since red light cameras do not reduce accidents or free up
officers, why would cities put them in?
The City of Seattle ran a 10 month pilot program that
generated $900,000 in revenue, even though only 70% of the
people actually paid the ticket. The City declared the
pilot a huge success and is aggressively expanding the
number of intersections with red light cameras. Their
report also stated, "There is little evidence that cameras
have decreased the frequency of all auto crashes or of the
more dangerous angle collisions".
